How to Use and Store PARSWOOD™ Carbon Lenticular Filter Modules
Share
Carbon lenticular filter modules, like PARSWOOD™ carbon-impregnated pads, are a great way to remove color, off-notes, or trace organics from your liquids. Unlike standard cellulose depth filters, their “life” depends on how much carbon can adsorb, not on pressure or fouling.
If you’re swapping them out for other filters or storing them between uses, following proper handling and storage steps will help you get the most out of each module.
1. Handling Your Modules
- Always wear gloves and handle modules carefully — the media is delicate.
- Avoid touching the filtration surface to prevent contamination.
- Inspect for damage before installing.
2. Installation & Filtration
- Pre-filter your product to remove solids before it hits the PARSWOOD™ module.
- Install the module in the lenticular housing according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Run one batch or run per module — PARSWOOD™ carbon pads are not designed for multi-cycle use.
- Monitor the product for changes in color, flavor, or aroma.
- Stop using the module once the carbon is “full” or the desired effect is lost.
Tip: The carbon is embedded in a cellulose/DE matrix, so it produces very little dust — but it cannot be regenerated or backflushed.
3. Post-Use Rinse (Optional)
- Gently rinse the module with sanitized water if needed.
- Do not backflush — reverse flow can damage the media and won’t restore adsorption capacity.
4. Storage Between Uses (2–3 Months)
Wet Storage (Preferred)
- Remove gaskets and O-rings — ethanol can degrade them over time.
- Fully submerge the module in 30–40% food-grade ethanol (neutral spirit or clean vodka).
- Use a sealed, food-grade container.
- Store in a cool, dark spot.
- Inspect periodically to ensure the module remains submerged.
- Before reuse, rinse thoroughly and sanitize.
Dry Storage (If Wet Isn’t Possible)
- Allow the module to dry completely and evenly.
- Seal it in an airtight bag with desiccant.
- Store in a cool, dark, low-humidity area.
- Inspect for cracks or damage before reuse.
Note: Dry storage is less ideal. Carbon can adsorb compounds from the air, which may reduce its effectiveness.
5. Disposal
- Once the carbon is exhausted, dispose of the module according to local regulations.
- Do not attempt regeneration.
