Particle filtration / qualified filtration dutyProcess, treatment or storageVerification or decision

Match the treatment to what is in the water.

Suspended particles

Sediment, debris and corrosion solids require a defined particle-removal target. Compare the retention test, flow capacity and solids loading.

Dissolved constituents

Salts, hardness and dissolved chemicals need appropriate treatment such as RO, ion exchange or contaminant-specific adsorption. A general sediment cartridge does not provide these functions.

Microbiological quality

Use a documented treatment strategy and suitable verification. A fine micron label or antibacterial material description does not establish pathogen removal.

Incoming & service water

Seasonal solids, corrosion debris and changing demand can affect a plant water supply. Establish the intended use before selecting treatment: equipment service water and ingredient water need different acceptance criteria.

Representative process mapRead in numbered order
  1. 01Source assessmentCheck seasonal feed quality
  2. 02Bulk treatmentScreen, clarify or use membrane pretreatment as required
  3. 03Particle controlPolish an adequately pretreated feed

Filter waste and upstream treatment residuals leave through controlled waste-handling routes. This is a representative route; primary treatment depends on the source.

Conceptual treatment logic. Pumping, valves, controls and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

Filtration stages & selection

Stage Purpose Approach to evaluate
Feed loading Keep excessive solids away from disposable polishing elements. Compare feed variation and existing pretreatment with the replacement frequency.
Polishing Manage the specified particle burden. Evaluate high-flow, pleated PP, melt-blown or bag formats for the selected duty.
Acceptance Check more than visual clarity. Set a receiving-water specification and a sampling point.

Process information to review

Source and analysis; peak/normal flow; turbidity and suspended solids; particle sizes; temperature; available pressure; intended water use.

Relevant documents & trial evidence

Request the selected element’s retention test, flow/pressure-loss data, full wetted materials, seal details, temperature and differential-pressure limits, cleaning compatibility and relevant contact documentation. Pair these with the receiving equipment’s water-quality specification.

Agree feed and outlet sampling, flow, pressure difference, useful throughput and replacement criteria before trial. A product page is not a substitute for missing grade-specific documentation.

RO concentrate → designated concentrate handling. Chemical injection locations and final filter position must follow the engineered system design; this overview does not fix every dosing point.

Conceptual treatment logic. Pumping, valves, controls and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

Filtration stages & selection

Stage Purpose Approach to evaluate
Guard filter Intercept residual particles before the high-pressure pump. Review an exact pleated PP or high-flow model against the RO supplier’s requirement.
Feed checks Identify fouling risk and adverse chemistry. Track the specified SDI, turbidity, oxidant and chemistry limits; SDI is an index, not a cartridge micron rating.
Operation Recognize upstream deterioration. Trend filter pressure difference and RO performance; investigate unusually short cartridge life.

Process information to review

Complete feed analysis; membrane model; specified feed limits; antiscalant/dechlorination programme; flow and temperature; current element drawing; cartridge life.

Cooling-tower side-stream filtration

Airborne debris and corrosion solids can accumulate in an open cooling circuit. A side-stream filter treats a portion of circulating water; the main cooling circuit continues operating in parallel.

Return ↺ basin / loop. Makeup replaces losses; controlled blowdown manages concentration. Solids filtration does not replace corrosion, scale or microbiological treatment.

Conceptual treatment logic. Pumping, valves, controls and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

Filtration stages & selection

Stage Purpose Approach to evaluate
Technology choice Match removal method to the solids. Compare disposable elements with automatic screen, separator or media-filter options.
Candidate duty Treat a suitable, manageable solids load. Review bag or high-flow formats; element consumption matters to operating cost.
Verification Check the operating circuit. Compare suspended solids and maintenance burden while retaining the water-treatment programme.

Process information to review

Loop volume; circulation and side-stream flows; solids distribution; chemistry; biocide compatibility; disposal route; maintenance access.

Filtered branch ↺ closed loop. The heat exchanger removes heat; a particulate filter does not restore exhausted inhibitor or correct an unsuitable glycol concentration.

Conceptual treatment logic. Pumping, valves, controls and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

Filtration stages & selection

Stage Purpose Approach to evaluate
Fluid review Account for formulation and temperature. Use actual coolant properties for compatibility and pressure-loss assessment.
Particle control Capture unwanted solids. Bags or PP cartridges are candidates only after fluid and equipment review.
Hydraulics Avoid starving the receiving equipment. Check pump margin and clean-to-loaded element pressure loss.

Conceptual treatment logic. Pumping, valves, controls and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

Filtration stages & selection

Stage Purpose Approach to evaluate
Pretreatment Reduce solids loading before the makeup plant. Review water-rated PP or high-flow candidates for the actual inlet conditions.

Failed quality check → isolation / diversion, not automatic return. Dissolved contamination needs a suitable treatment or rejection decision; it cannot be assumed removed by the particulate stage.

Conceptual treatment logic. Pumping, valves, controls and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

Filtration stages & selection

Stage Purpose Approach to evaluate
Monitoring Find contaminated return streams. Define chemistry and sampling with the steam-system team.
Equipment selection Handle actual thermal and pressure conditions. Request an application-specific review; no standard catalogue cartridge is preselected here.

PARSWOOD™ candidates for selected water duties

Melt-blown PP cartridges

General sediment-loading duties and staged water prefiltration.

The catalogue identifies polypropylene media and water/coolant duties. Its published efficiencies are below 100%; this family should not be described as an absolute barrier.

Confirm the exact grade and pressure/temperature envelope. Do not transfer a room-temperature rating to hot condensate or assume compatibility with a complete cleaning formulation.

View product specifications →

Absolute pleated PP cartridges

Defined fine-particle control before RO or a sensitive water user.

The listing describes pleated polypropylene construction, grades from 0.1–50 µm and pre-RO/process-water applications.

Obtain the grade-specific efficiency test and operating limits. A micron rating does not establish salt rejection, disinfection or an integrity-testable microbial barrier.

View product specifications →

Size 2 filter bags

Coarse or intermediate particle-control trials in compatible utility liquids.

Size 2 bags are offered in polypropylene, polyester and nylon constructions with different ring options. Retention is nominal.

Confirm basket support, sealing and actual fluid conditions. Bags do not replace bulk clarifiers, self-cleaning screens or certified microbial treatment.

View product specifications →

High-flow pleated cartridges

Higher-flow particle control in water pretreatment and selected utility circuits.

The catalogue explicitly lists RO pretreatment, process water and desalination. It contains multiple constructions and formats; identify the exact model before specifying.

Verify retention efficiency, dimensions, flow direction, seal and hydraulic data. An antibacterial description is not evidence of a validated pathogen barrier or potable-water certification.

Process filter housings

A vessel matched to the element, fluid and installation.

The catalogue includes high-flow, multi-cartridge, bag and sanitary housing families.

Review the actual vessel drawing, pressure rating, seals, corrosion resistance, drain/vent arrangements and applicable documentation. The family name alone is not evidence of a suitable pressure vessel or hygienic installation.
