CNC machining & grinding coolant

Recirculating coolant carries chips and fine abrasive material away from the cut. Separate bulk debris before asking a cartridge to control the remaining fines. Select filtration around the tool, workpiece and fluid formulation, including the oil droplets that must remain in a water-mix emulsion.

Magnets address ferrous debris, not aluminium fines. Particle filtration does not replace coolant maintenance, microbial monitoring or mist extraction.

Filtration stages and selection

Stage Objective PARSWOOD approach to evaluate
Bulk solids Keep chips and heavy loading out of the fine stage. Confirm existing separator performance before selecting a disposable element.
Residual fines Reduce recirculated particles. Evaluate melt-blown PP, bags or multi-channel elements; pleated PP where a defined fine-particle duty justifies it.
Fluid condition Retain the intended coolant properties. Trial the actual emulsion; compare concentration, foaming, flow and downstream particles.

Process information to review

Coolant identity and concentration; metal and abrasive type; particle-size distribution; flow; viscosity and temperature; clean and terminal pressure drop; tool/nozzle requirements.

Documents and trial evidence

Fluid compatibility statement, removal-efficiency curve, flow/pressure-drop data and housing drawing. Record solids removed, run length and fluid condition during the trial.

Parts washing & final rinsing

A washed part can pick up contamination again from its wash bath, rinse or handling. Treat each fluid circuit independently and judge the result on the component—not only on the apparent clarity of the tank.

This is the part route. Do not connect different bath chemistries into one shared filter loop. Cleanliness testing needs an agreed extraction and analysis method.

Filtration stages and selection

Stage Objective PARSWOOD approach to evaluate
Wash bath Capture released particulate. Bags, multi-channel or melt-blown elements after bulk-solids control. Oil removal may require a separate process.
Final rinse Limit particles carried onto the cleaned part. Evaluate pleated PP or high-flow formats against rinse quality and flow.
Verification Confirm cleanliness of the finished component. Use the customer’s test specification; a filter micron label is not a component cleanliness result.

Process information to review

Detergent, pH, temperature, bath volume, rinse-water chemistry, part geometry and allowable residual contamination. Confirm blank levels and sampling repeatability.

Documents and trial evidence

Filter compatibility with hot wash chemistry; retention data; cleanliness test method and acceptance limits; bath turnover and pressure-drop records.

Stamping, drawing & sheet pre-wash

Particles on sheet metal can become surface impressions during forming. Pre-wash fluid cleanliness supports surface quality, while the press hydraulic circuit has a separate equipment-protection duty.

This map focuses on the pre-wash service loop. Press hydraulics require separately rated filtration; process cartridges are not assumed suitable for cyclic hydraulic service.

Filtration stages and selection

Stage Objective PARSWOOD approach to evaluate
Pre-wash particles Limit redeposition and nozzle loading. Evaluate PP depth, pleated PP or bag formats for the actual wash fluid.
Drawing fluids Control unwanted solids where fluid is recovered. Confirm lubricant compatibility and viscosity before a trial.
Press hydraulics Protect hydraulic components. A dedicated hydraulic selection is required; no equivalent is established by this page.

Process information to review

Sheet finish, defect pattern, wash method, fluid identity, cycle changes, flow and pressure transients. Compare surface inspection results before and after the trial.

Documents and trial evidence

Pre-wash circuit drawing, material compatibility, filtration efficiency and operating limits. Keep hydraulic documentation separate.

Rolling mills & metal forming fluids

Rolling operations can involve process coolant, bearing lubricant and hydraulic oil in the same plant. Keep these circuits distinct. The particle load and fluid chemistry determine whether bulk separation, disposable filtration or specialist purification is appropriate.

Teal: filtration · Gold: verification. Conceptual treatment logic; pumps, valves and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

Spent emulsions may need a different treatment process from coolant intended for reuse. A particle cartridge does not remove dissolved contamination or dehydrate lubricating oil.

Filtration stages and selection

Stage Objective PARSWOOD approach to evaluate
Process coolant Control residual suspended solids. PP depth, bags or high-flow candidates after suitable bulk removal.
Bearing lubricant Control particles and water as separate duties. Obtain a dedicated lubrication-system assessment; general process-filter ratings are insufficient.
Spent emulsion Prepare a waste or recovery stream. Specialist separation may be needed before any particle-polishing stage.

Process information to review

Metal/alloy, fluid type, solids loading, temperature, flow variability and desired surface finish. Identify whether the sample comes from coolant, lubricant or waste.

Documents and trial evidence

Aluminium can & container manufacturing

Bodymaking coolant collects aluminium fines during drawing. Keeping these particles from recirculating into the tooling is a distinct metalworking duty, even when the finished can will later hold a beverage.

Validate any change to the existing primary separator. A cartridge is not automatically a replacement for an entire filter press; a temporary bypass needs its own capacity and quality assessment.

Filtration stages and selection

Stage Objective PARSWOOD approach to evaluate
Primary loading Handle the incoming mass of fines. Measure loading and existing separation performance.
Disposable filtration Evaluate residual-fines capture. Melt-blown PP is a candidate; compare actual efficiency and capacity rather than matching the nominal grade alone.
Production trial Assess both fluid and product results. Track pressure drop, tool condition, surface defects and scrap against the baseline.

Process information to review

Number of bodymakers, peak flow, coolant concentration, aluminium-fines distribution, existing press cycle and permissible interruptions.

Documents and trial evidence

Current element geometry and sealing; retention curve; flow/pressure data; representative trial results and existing primary-separator records.

Pretreatment & e-coat bath support

Cleaning and conversion-treatment stages prepare metal for coating. Each bath and rinse needs its own contamination-control approach. E-coat particle filtration and ultrafiltration paint recovery perform different jobs.

Process map / Pretreatment & e-coat bath supportFollow steps 01–06
  1. 01Clean / degreaseControl soil carried from fabrication
  2. 02RinseLimit carryover into the next bath
  3. 03Conversion treatmentUse the specified chemistry

  5. 05E-coat bathSeparate particle-control loop
  6. 06Post-coat rinseRecovery system defined by the line
↳ E-coat recovery branch: bath → qualified UF system → concentrate back to bath; permeate to the designated rinse/recovery arrangement. This branch is separate from particle filtration.

Teal: filtration · Gold: verification. Conceptual treatment logic; pumps, valves and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

Treatment order and bath count vary by line chemistry. PP cartridges are not replacements for e-coat UF membranes. Sludge capture does not correct dissolved bath chemistry.

Filtration stages and selection

Stage Objective PARSWOOD approach to evaluate
Cleaning / conversion baths Manage particulate or sludge where generated. Review bags or multi-channel elements against chemistry, temperature and solids load.
Rinse and make-up water Control particles entering the line. PP depth, pleated PP or high-flow candidates; microbial control needs a separate validated plan where required.
E-coat particle loop Remove unwanted debris while retaining useful paint solids. Trial a compatible medium with the coating supplier; no UF replacement is offered here.

Process information to review

Bath identity, temperature, pH, line sequence, solids loading, paint composition and existing UF arrangement.

Documents and trial evidence

Bath compatibility approval; particle retention and paint-solids trial; separate UF specifications and rinse-water targets.

↳ Where recirculation is used, the return line goes to its designated paint supply loop, with separate return filtration if specified. Keep colours and incompatible chemistries segregated.

Teal: filtration · Gold: verification. Conceptual treatment logic; pumps, valves and protective devices are not fully shown. Not an installation drawing.

No paint-qualified PARSWOOD equivalence is established by media type alone. Obtain extractables, silicone-contamination and formulation-compatibility evidence before substitution.

Filtration stages and selection

Stage Objective PARSWOOD approach to evaluate
Line filtration Reduce defects caused by unwanted particles. PP depth or bags are candidate formats for trials, subject to paint qualification.
Point of use Meet the applicator’s requirements. Verify a dedicated element/capsule specification; no matching capsule has been confirmed.
Acceptance Preserve intended coating properties. Compare colour, pigment retention, adhesion and surface defects with the approved process.

Process information to review

Water- or solvent-based formulation, viscosity, flow, temperature, pigment/effect-particle size and applicator limits.

Documents and trial evidence

Extractables and silicone statement; seal/media compatibility; retention performance; paint-trial results. Product listings are not paint-system approval.

This is a representative feed-water route, not a universal sequence. Particle filtration does not guarantee rinse conductivity, remove all dissolved metals or establish wastewater discharge compliance.

Filtration stages and selection

Stage Objective PARSWOOD approach to evaluate
Equipment protection Reduce suspended particles. Bags, melt-blown PP or high-flow cartridges according to load and flow.
Membrane pretreatment Limit particles reaching an RO/other membrane system. Select the grade and monitoring programme to the downstream equipment requirements.
Reuse evaluation Determine whether treated water suits its next use. Assess the complete treatment train and water analysis; do not infer suitability from visual clarity.

Process information to review

Source analysis, conductivity, hardness, oil, solids, flow and end-use requirements; distinguish clean utility water from contaminated waste streams.

Related duties / separate qualification

Where a specialist review is essential.

Hydraulics, lubrication & test stands

Review pressure cycling, collapse strength, bypass behaviour, viscosity and retention testing. No validated PARSWOOD hydraulic replacement has been established in this guide.

EV & battery manufacturing

Machined housings, gears and cooling components can use the washing and machining framework. Battery slurry, electrolyte and cell-production filtration require a separate study.

PARSWOOD candidates by filtration duty

Melt-blown PP cartridges

Particle loading in compatible coolant, wash and process-water service.

The published efficiency table lists 85% for 1–5 µm grades and 90% for 10–100 µm grades. These are not absolute barriers. The listing gives a 65°C maximum operating temperature and 2.0 bar maximum differential pressure at 20°C; confirm the selected construction and derating.

Do not transfer the retention performance of a different depth technology to this cartridge.

View product specifications →

Absolute pleated PP cartridges

Fine-particle control and protection of selected downstream operations.

Published grades span 0.1–50 µm. The listing identifies process-water and plating-chemical applications. Obtain the test method, retention efficiency and pressure/temperature limits for the exact grade.

An “absolute” label alone does not establish an OEM cleanliness result or suitability for paint.

View product specifications →

Size 2 filter bags

General particle capture where a bag format fits the duty.

The listing offers PP, PET and nylon media and different seal-ring constructions. Ratings are nominal. Select the material for the actual chemistry and temperature, and verify the supporting basket and seal.

A nominal bag is not interchangeable with an absolute cartridge at the same micron number.

View product specifications →

Multi-channel filter elements

A candidate when reviewing an existing bag-format installation.

Published PP/PET constructions and nominal grades of 1–200 µm. Confirm the specific length, top plate, restrainer basket and sealing arrangement before a trial; published standard bag dimensions do not prove fit.

No service-life multiplier or direct replacement performance is promised for your fluid.

View product specifications →

High-flow pleated cartridges

Larger process-water and compatible recirculation flows.

The listing includes several formats, nominal/absolute options and different constructions. Select one exact model; confirm dimensions, flow direction, seals and retention data before comparing it with the installed element.

Do not treat all high-flow formats as interchangeable or infer sterilization from antibacterial marketing.

View product specifications →

Process filter housings

Contain and seal the selected element in its operating circuit.

Confirm vessel materials, pressure/temperature rating, connections, vent/drain arrangement and element retention. Review installation space and safe change-out access.

A process housing is not assumed suitable for a hydraulic pressure line.
